"In 1996 a small, independent film called “Driven” was released with no fanfare at all. It starred, among others, Whip Hubley, a young actor best known for playing the fighter pilot nicknamed Hollywood in “Top Gun.” But then a twist came along that would strain believability even in a Hollywood movie.

Two years ago, on the day after Christmas, the writer and director of “Driven,” Michael Shoob, reached out to Hubley... “Give me a call,” Shoob texted. “I want to talk to you about a film.”
